A historic win for the drama club at Wallaceburg District Secondary School.
At last week’s National Theater School Drama Festival, WDSS won outstanding production for its performance of The Boy in the Treehouse by Drew Hayden Taylor. The club also took home awards for set design and use of space, production of promise, and acting awards for Turtle Loulas, Halle Miskokomon, and Biidaas Chiblow.
“The Boy in the Treehouse,” tells the story of Simon, the son of an Ojibway mother and a British father, who climbs into his treehouse on a vision-quest he believes will reclaim his mother’s culture.
This is the first time WDSS has won the local drama festival and been chosen to advance to the regional competition.
The drama club is now fundraising to support their trip to the South Regional festival, which runs April 24-26 in Hamilton.
The National Theatre School Drama Festival, formerly known as the Sears Drama Festival, brings together students, teachers, artists, and parents to foster a safe, nurturing, and creative space for high school drama students to showcase their work.
