A Blenheim man is now facing firearm-related charges following a standoff with police.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers with the Critical Incident Response Team, Canine Unit, and Criminal Investigation Branch responded to a “weapons incident” on Hannibal Street shortly after 7 a.m. on Friday.
Officers negotiated with a man at a residence for roughly two hours.
Authorities announced shortly before 10 a.m. that the situation had been resolved peacefully and the man had been taken into custody.
Later the same day at around 3 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at the Hannibal Street home and seized two firearms: a rifle and a shotgun.
The 45-year-old accused is now charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possessing a firearm knowing it’s unauthorized, and two counts of careless storage of a firearm.
The man appeared in court on Saturday and was remanded into custody with a court date on Monday.
