Several wetland restoration and enhancement projects have been announced for Lake Huron and Lake Erie, as part of a multi-million dollar investment from the Ontario government.
The province is providing up to $6.9 million in funding to 14 Ontario conversation groups to restore, in an effort to restore more than 2,400 acres of wetlands in Ontario.
Among the 100 conservation projects to be funded in Ontario, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority will be restoring around 67 acres of coastal wetland habitat in the McLean and Bates conservation lands within the Lake Erie watershed by managing invasive species.
As well, the Nature Conservancy of Canada will be taking on 13 wetland restoration projects that cover around 153 acres. These projects will support coastal wetlands along Lake Huron, Lake St. Clair, Turkey Point in Lake Erie and Eastern Lake Ontario.
The provincial government said the Wetlands Conservation Partner Program will help to improve water quality, help prevent flooding, and build climate change resiliency.
