Just weeks after losing out on a controversial provincial contract for the Pelee Island ferry, Hike Metal has landed a huge federal contract.

The Wheatley ship builders will manufacture at least six vessels for the coast guard with the option to build another four.

The contract is worth $43.4-million and will create 25 jobs at Hike Metal and just as many spin-off jobs.

Hike Metal lost the Pelee Island ferry contract to a company in Chile. Other notable boats the company has built include the replacements for the Maid of the Mist in Niagara Falls.
