Many Wheatley residents will soon be able to access their homes and businesses once again.
As promised during last weekend’s virtual town hall, municipal official say a further reduction of the evacuation zone, put in place after last summer’s explosion, goes into effect today.
Several residents on Elm Street, Erie Street North, and Foster Street will have access to their properties today. That does not include 34 Foster Street, 47 Erie Street North, and 14 Elm Street, which remain inside the evacuation zone. As well, properties located along Talbot Trail that appear to be outside of the newly reduced evacuation zone will remain inaccessible until Talbot Road opens to traffic.
More work is planned for next week that is needed for further reductions on the emergency zone to take place. Updates will be provided when the date of this additional work has been confirmed.
Talbot Road will still remain closed to throughway traffic until the work is completed.
