The mounting cost of supporting Wheatley residents following last summer’s explosion will be in the municipal spotlight tonight.
In a report coming to council tonight, it will show the gas explosion that occurred in Wheatley in August of last year has so far cost the municipality over $5.5 million in expenses, such as employee wages, security and other costs.
The report said that the province gave Chatham-Kent a $2 million grant to help with the extra expenses in February of this year.
The municipality is having continued discussions with the province regarding the remaining expenses not covered by the $2 million grant.
