As gas monitoring continues in downtown Wheatley, municipal officials say the Chatham-Kent Public Library in the community will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

Officials say at the current time, there is no risk to public safety, but residents are asked to avoid the area around 35 Talbot Road West.

Should the closure remain in place for an extended time, library staff will provide temporary services, such as Storytime in the Park at Coulter Park as planned later today and on July 18.

“As the investigation continues, our top priority is public safety,” said Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue Chief Chris Case. “We are working closely with technical experts and provincial partners to determine the source of the gas and take any actions necessary to protect the community.”
