Wheatley Man Fined For Fishing Violations

A Wheatley man has been fined after pleading guilty to commercial fishing violations.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, conservation officers received a complaint from the public in March 2025 about a possible abandoned gill net in Lake Erie near Wheatley.

Following an investigation, it was learned that the accused had failed to retrieve gill nets from Lake Erie within eight days, failed to report lost nets to a conservation officer, failed to submit an accurate and complete daily catch report, failed to maintain an accurate and complete logbook, and allowed fish suitable for human consumption to spoil.

The case was heard at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on October 20, 2025. The Wheatley man has since been fined $4,500
