Following two years of repairs and rehabilitation, the water treatment plant servicing Wheatley and Tilbury is now back online.

Officials with the Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission said on Monday that the Wheatley Water Treatment Plant is once again supplying safe, high-quality drinking water to residents.

The treatment plant had been out of commission since September 2023, when a fire caused extensive damage to the facility. Since then, the municipality supplied water to the Tilbury and Wheatley areas through interconnects with Leamington and south Chatham. A temporary mobile water treatment system was also brought in to meet the area’s water needs.

Throughout the repair process, many components in the plant were replaced with the newest available technology to ensure longevity and reliable production for the next several years.
