The Thames flood of 2018 was different than the types of floods seen in Wallaceburg.
Girish Sankar, Director of Water Resources with the SCRCA says the reason Wallaceburg was spared massive flooding this spring was due to things like geography, weather patterns, and one major piece of infrastructure.
“The roll of the McKeough dam is that it’s operated during a severe flood. Anytime that’s being operated we have to be thankful because it’s saved the community,” says Sankar. “Minor ice jams, wind
irection, the level of lake St. Clair all contribute to floods”
Sankar says he doesn’t anticipate any more flooding this spring.
