The prognosticating is done for another year and Wiarton Willie is calling for an early spring.

The marmot failed to see his shadow this morning and is predicting an early spring.

Willie kept in line with other well-known North American groundhogs as Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam and Punxatawny Phil also called for spring to come early.

The weather lore has German roots, stemming from the belief that clear weather on the Christian festival of Candlemas was a sign of a longer winter.
