A Windsor man has been charged after allegedly offering to help a neo-Nazi terrorist group.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said an investigation began after the accused allegedly committed various hate-motivated offences in the Windsor area between February 12 and May 20, 2021. The RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Team also learned that he had allegedly filed an online application to join the Atomwaffen Division, also offering his skills and commitment.

Also known as the National Socialist Order, the Atomwaffen Division was named by the federal government as a terrorist-listed entity in 2021.

As a result, a 19-year-old Windsor man has been charged with:

  • Participating in or contributing to, directly or indirectly, any activity of a terrorist group for the purpose of enhancing the ability of any terrorist group to facilitate or carry out a terrorist activity, contrary to Section 83.18(1) of the Criminal Code.

The Atomwaffen Division was originally founded in the United States in 2013. The group calls for acts of violence against racial, religious, and ethnic groups, informants, police, and bureaucrats, to prompt the collapse of society. Its members are known to have carried out violent acts at public rallies, including the August 2017 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
