Canada’s weather agency has issued a warning ahead of hazardous winter conditions that are expected to impact Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning for the municipality Wednesday afternoon, due to a low-pressure system that is expected to track northeast across Lake Erie and Lake Ontario on Thursday.

Freezing rain and ice pellets are forecast for the area Thursday morning into the afternoon, with 2-5 mm of ice accumulation possible. The rain will turn to snow in the afternoon and continue into the evening. Between 10-20 centimetres of snowfall is expected.

Drivers should expect reduced visibility due to heavy and blowing snow, as well as icy and slippery surfaces.
