Charges have been laid after a man assaulted a woman while breaking into her home in Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to a Gray Street home at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday for a report of intimate partner violence.
Officers arrived to find the front doors of the home open and that significant damage had been caused throughout the residence. Police also located the homeowner who had been assaulted and required medical care.
Authorities located and arrested a suspect, who was also bound by a release order prohibiting him from contacting or being in proximity to the victim.
As a result, a 45-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault, break-and-enter to cause mischief, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
