A Chatham man is facing several charges after allegedly breaking into a home and assaulting his partner.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a disturbance at a Chatham residence at around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday after the accused allegedly forced his way into the home.
While inside, authorities alleged the man uttered threats, damaged property, struck a woman in the face, and assaulted the victim’s dog. The woman suffered minor injuries while the dog was uninjured.
The 27-year-old accused later turned himself in to police. The Chatham man is now charged with break-and-enter, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, assault, uttering threats, two counts of mischief, and two counts of breaching recognizance.
He was taken to the South West Detention Centre and held in custody pending his next court appearance.
