Three people are facing charges after a man was beaten unconscious for allegedly attacking a woman with a bottle in Wallaceburg.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a 19-year-old man was visiting a friend at a Westcourt Boulevard residence on June 30, when the friend’s parents returned home shortly before 10 p.m.
When the 19-year-old began acting disruptive, the mother asked him to leave. Following an argument, the 19-year-old man allegedly broke a bottle and cut the woman’s neck using a shard of glass.
Seeing the attack, the friend and his father intervened and allegedly struck the man multiple times in the head, causing him to lose consciousness.
The woman and her alleged attacker were then rushed to hospital by EMS with life-threatening injuries. The woman was later transferred to London Health Sciences for further treatment and has since been released.
The two men who had intervened in the attack, an 18-year-old and a 30-year-old from Wallaceburg, were both arrested and charged with aggravated assault. The pair were later released with a future court date.
The 19-year-old man was transferred to Windsor Regional Hospital for treatment and remained in hospital until Tuesday. After being discharged, he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He has since been remanded into custody with a court date scheduled for Wednesday.
