A Niagara woman is facing identity theft charges after trying to purchase a vehicle from a Chatham dealership.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to the Richmond Street dealership at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday regarding a fraud in progress.
Authorities said a woman attempted to buy a vehicle using someone else’s ID, resulting in the purchase being flagged in a national fraud database. Officers also learned that the owner of the ID had reported a separate fraud to police in another jurisdiction.
As a result, a 26-year-old Niagara woman was arrested and is now charged with impersonation with intent, fraud over $5,000 and false pretense. She was taken to police headquarters and later released with a June court date.
