Two people remain in hospital after being rescued from the St. Clair River near Sarnia.
The Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to a beach near Fort Street in Point Edward just before noon on Saturday after receiving a report of a possible drowning.
Firefighters from Sarnia and Point Edward, along with the United States Coast Guard, assisted police in rescuing two people from the water who had been in distress.
Both were taken to hospital in Sarnia for treatment and one has since been transferred to a hospital in London. One of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries while the extent of the other’s injuries has not been disclosed.
Previously, the OPP had incorrectly said one of the victims had died in hospital and the other had been released from hospital. Authorities have since issued a corrected statement, which is reflected in the article above.
