Police have confirmed that one person is dead after being struck by a CP cargo train in Chatham’s east end.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said emergency crews responded after a woman was struck by the train on the railway tracks on Princess Street North near Colborne Street on Wednesday shortly after 3 p.m.
Authorities said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim has not been released at this time.
The collision caused traffic delays throughout the area, with several railway crossings blocked due to the train that had stopped on the tracks.
