A 43-year-old woman has been charged following a shoplifting incident in Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to a business on Queen Street on Wednesday at around 11:35 p.m., after a woman attempted to leave with two bags of merchandise without paying.

The accused was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

The Chatham-Kent woman has since been released from custody with a future court date.
