Two women are lucky to have escaped unscathed after accidentally driving their vehicle into the lake in Erieau.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to Mariner’s Road at around 8 p.m. on Thursday after a driver mistakenly pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing their vehicle to launch into the water.
The windshield shattered when the vehicle hit the water, allowing the occupants, a 20-year-old woman and an 18-year-old woman, to escape before the vehicle sank.
The women remained in the 20-foot-deep water for around four minutes before spotting a nearby ladder, which they used to climb out. The pair reached a nearby house where they called for help.
The Harbour Master and Federal Docks have been notified about the incident to address the submerged vehicle.
Police have not released any information about charges in relation to the incident.
