Construction on the new power plant at the Wallaceburg hospital is into the final stages.
Ground was broken on the $7.3 million dollar project in October, 2020, and board chair Alan Wildeman says testing is now being done on component such as gas and hydro lines and other infrastructure.
“It’ll be really a bedrock upon which future developments in Wallaceburg will be able to happen,” Wildeman says. “They’re just in the final testing stage for the power plant project and hope to have that completed early in the new year.”
Meantime, talks continue between the hospital and Ministry of Health on funding for the next phase of redevelopment.
“The key elements are a rebuild of the emergency department and the five medical beds,” CEO Lori Marshall explains. “We know diagnostics will continue to stay at the Wallaceburg site, and also being able to use the existing facility for the ever-growing ambulatory care services, such as the RAAM (Rapid Access to Addiction Medicine) and the medical day care.”
The next phase is expected to cost upwards of $25-million, and Marshall says she hopes to have some good news to share in the near future.
