Work To Rule Begins At Schools Across Ontario

A work to rule campaign by support staff at schools across the province is set to begin this morning after last ditch talks over the weekend.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce says he’s disappointed the union decided to end talks over the weekend “despite a limited number of outstanding items on the table.”

Both the St Clair Catholic and Lambton Kent District School Board have said student safety is a top priority and that while schools remain open, some services may be limited.

The union represents office staff; educational assistants who help children with special-education, behaviour or mental health needs; early childhood educators in kindergarten classes; IT staff; librarians; and custodians, among others.

A list of possible work-to-rule instructions that could take effect as early as this today was released last week, including a refusal to clean hallways, check for head lice or set up chairs and tables for any event for the school or community, including elections.
