Impaired driving charges have been laid after a vehicle was seen driving on the wrong side of the road in Wallaceburg.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a report of a potential impaired driver on McNaughton Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The vehicle was seen driving in the wrong direction on the roadway before entering a parking lot.

Authorities located the vehicle and used an approved screening device on the driver, which registered a fail. Unsealed bottles of alcohol were also found inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested and taken to police headquarters for further tests.

As a result, a 35-year-old Walpole Island woman is now charged with driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and driving with an open container of liquor. She was later released with a March court date.
