A heated day at Queen’s Park as local activists demanded to know why there has still not been a health hazard investigation into contaminated wells in North Kent.
NDP MPP Taras Natyshak raised the issue on the Legislature floor.
“During the campaign, the current premier promised the people affected by this contamination that he would conduct a health hazard investigation immediately,” Natyshak says. “Immediately has come and gone, it’s now more than a year later and the people are still waiting.”
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP and Infrastructure Minister, Monte McNaughton turned the focus back onto the opposition.
“They voted in favour of the Samsung agreement, they supported private power when they voted for the Green Energy Act,” McNaughton says. “We were left with a mess, we are going to clean it up, they caused this problem, we’ll take no advice from them!”
As for the health hazard investigation, McNaughton would only say he continues to work closely with the Minster of Health.
Members of the activist group Water Wells First were in the gallery for question period and held a brief news conference later in the afternoon, saying they’ve lost patience and trust in both Premier Doug Ford and the PC government.
