Wynne Wants Local Water Data

Ontario’s premier is putting the burden of proof back onto local residents when it comes to the issue of water well contamination.

During a town hall meeting in Windsor last night, Water Wells First spokesman Kevin Jakubec asked Kathleen Wynne point blank if she will launch a health hazard investigation in Chatham-Kent.

The Premier wouldn’t directly answer the question, but she said the water well issue is one she’s been keeping tabs on.

“The science that has been done through the Ministry, you may not agree with it but it has shown that the water is safe,” Wynne says. “I understand there’s a discolouration, but we need to see your results.”

Kathleen Wynne says if local activists have data that is different from testing the province has done, that information should be shared.

Jakubec was then directed to speak with one of the Premier’s staff members to help arrange a meeting with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to compare test results.
