A local advocate and person supported by Community Living Wallaceburg is organizing a colourful event to raise awareness about deafblindness disabilities.
Christa, who lives with deafblindness herself, is hosting her first-ever Yarn Bombing & Awareness Walk in Wallaceburg on June 22, beginning at 10 a.m.
Walkers will meet at Civic Square Park and walk to the Community Living building at 1100 Dufferin Ave. During the event, participants will “yarn bomb” both locations by decorating each public space with knitted, crocheted, or wrapped yarn art.
According to organizers, using textures people can physically touch and see, like yarn art, represents how individuals with dual sensory impairment experience the world.
Christa joined this global awareness initiative in 2021 by “Yarn Bombing” trees and bushes on her property, and later bombing other prominent Wallaceburg locations.
